Neftaly Guide: Organizing Babyproofing Tasks Room by Room
Welcoming a new baby into your home is a joyful and exciting time—but it also comes with the responsibility of keeping them safe. At Neftaly, we believe babyproofing should be simple, strategic, and stress-free. That’s why we’ve created this room-by-room checklist to help you babyproof your home with confidence and care.
????️ Nursery
Safety starts where your baby sleeps.
Create a peaceful and secure environment by focusing on:- Crib safety: Use a firm mattress with a fitted sheet; no pillows, blankets, or stuffed animals.
- Furniture anchors: Secure dressers, changing tables, and bookshelves to the wall.
- Outlet covers: Install safety plugs on all unused outlets.
- Cord management: Keep monitor cords, blinds, and curtain cords out of reach.
- Changing area: Never leave your baby unattended. Use a safety strap and keep supplies within arm’s reach.
????️ Living Room
A central space full of hazards at baby level.
- Cover sharp corners: Use soft edge protectors on coffee tables and furniture.
- Secure heavy items: Anchor TVs, shelves, and furniture.
- Hide cords: Use cord shorteners or covers for electronics.
- Remove breakables: Move fragile decor or glass items to higher shelves.
- Use baby gates: Block stairways or off-limit areas.
????️ Kitchen
Curious little hands are drawn to sights, smells, and sounds.
- Cabinet locks: Install latches on cabinets with chemicals, knives, or cleaning supplies.
- Stove safety: Use stove knob covers and a heat-resistant stove guard.
- Appliance locks: Secure the fridge, oven, microwave, and dishwasher.
- Move dangerous items: Keep sharp objects and small magnets well out of reach.
- Trash can: Use a lidded can with a child lock.
???? Bathroom
A room that requires extra caution due to water and chemicals.
- Toilet lock: Prevent drowning risks with a childproof lock.
- Non-slip mats: Use in the tub and on tile floors.
- Cabinet and drawer locks: Secure medications, razors, and cleaning products.
- Water temperature: Set your water heater to 120°F (49°C) or lower to prevent burns.
- Never leave baby unattended: Always supervise bath time.
????️ Master Bedroom & Other Bedrooms
Safe zones should extend to every sleeping area.
- Furniture anchors: As in the nursery, secure all furniture to walls.
- Outlet covers and cord control: Standard safety items apply here, too.
- Jewelry and medication: Store items that could be choking hazards or toxic out of reach.
- Cosmetics and toiletries: Lock away or store in high cabinets.
???? Laundry Room
Often overlooked, but full of risks.
- Detergent storage: Keep all chemicals locked away and high.
- Appliance locks: Prevent access to the washer and dryer doors.
- Ironing supplies: Store irons and ironing boards safely and unplugged.
???? Hallways & Stairs
Common travel zones with fall risks.
- Baby gates: Install at the top and bottom of stairs.
- Night lights: Help light the way for early walkers or nighttime feedings.
- Secure rugs: Use non-slip mats or tape to keep rugs flat.
Neftaly Tip: Prioritize & Plan
- Crawl around your home to see from your baby’s perspective.
- Tackle one room at a time, and focus on the spaces your baby will spend the most time in first.
- Regularly recheck safety as your child grows—what wasn’t a hazard at 6 months might be at 12 months.
