Neftaly’s Regional Commitment: Reducing New HIV Infections and TB Incidence Among Cross-Border and Mobile Populations in IGAD Member Countries
Cross-border and mobile populations—including refugees, migrant workers, pastoralists, and transport workers—face heightened vulnerability to HIV and tuberculosis (TB) due to limited access to health services, social exclusion, and mobility-related disruptions in care. Recognizing these unique challenges, Neftaly is committed to contributing to the reduction of new HIV infections and TB incidence across IGAD member states.
Our Mission:
To strengthen regional, national, and local capacities to provide inclusive, accessible, and continuous HIV and TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services to mobile and displaced populations across the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region.
Strategic Focus Areas:
- Cross-Border Health Service Integration: Support the harmonization and coordination of HIV and TB services across IGAD borders to ensure continuity of care for mobile populations.
- Community Engagement and Health Education: Implement culturally appropriate awareness campaigns that target high-risk groups with accurate information about HIV and TB prevention, testing, and treatment adherence.
- Access to Testing and Treatment: Expand outreach and mobile health services to provide HIV testing, TB screening, antiretroviral therapy (ART), and TB treatment in refugee settlements, border towns, and high-transit areas.
- Health Workforce Capacity Building: Train border health officials, community health workers, and local partners to improve early detection, treatment linkage, and follow-up for HIV and TB cases.
- Surveillance and Data Sharing: Strengthen regional disease surveillance systems and promote cross-border data sharing to identify hotspots, track treatment outcomes, and respond rapidly to emerging trends.
- Policy Advocacy and Collaboration: Work with IGAD, national governments, and other stakeholders to develop and implement policies that protect the health rights of mobile and displaced populations.
Our Impact:
By delivering targeted, cross-border interventions, Neftaly aims to:
- Reduce the number of new HIV infections among mobile and cross-border populations
- Lower TB incidence and support successful treatment outcomes
- Improve access to continuous and equitable healthcare
- Strengthen regional solidarity and public health collaboration across IGAD countries
Neftaly stands with IGAD member countries in creating a regional health framework that leaves no one behind—regardless of where they live, move, or seek refuge.
