Mapping Vulnerability. Planning for Safety. Building Resilience.
Informal settlements are home to millions of people living in high-risk conditions — from fire hazards and flooding to crime and poor infrastructure. Yet, these areas are often invisible in official maps, making it difficult for governments, NGOs, and communities to plan, respond, and protect lives.
At Neftaly (Neftaly Consulting & Training), we are changing that.
Through our Digital Safety Mapping initiative, we work directly with communities to create accurate, interactive, and real-time safety maps of informal settlements. These maps are powerful tools for planning, risk reduction, emergency response, and advocacy.
Why Digital Safety Maps Matter
Many informal settlements:
- Are not formally recognized in city plans
- Lack street names or identifiable infrastructure
- Experience recurring hazards (fires, flooding, landslides, crime)
- Have no data to support disaster preparedness or safety planning
Neftaly’s digital mapping technology bridges this data gap — making every street, household, hazard, and resource visible, actionable, and protected.
